EAT FAT!!!

Yes, I can't believe I'm doing this, but I'm now eating a low carb, high fat carb diet (LCHF)

Is it working... YES I've now lost 2 stone 61bs!! since I began my journey to health. The last 5 1bs since I began LCHF.

Do I like it, yes...


 And my reasons for this sudden change,  well my husband's health.

  Over the last few months I've grown increasingly concerned over my husband's health, as I lost weight he slowly gained it (eating regular meals) but even worse his blood sugars (BS) were all over the place hitting highs of 19 with the lowest being in the 10-11range. So after going on the Diabetes UK forum  http://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/  I read about the success of people who were on the LCHF eating plan. 
Within the last 4 weeks my husband has brought his BS levels down and he now averages 6.5 a day. He's also managed to reduce his nightime insulin from 70 to 20. 
One of the main proponents of this lifestyle (it Really is a Lifestyle change!) is Dr. Trudi Deakin her organisation is called Xpert health  http://www.xperthealth.org.uk/   

Her book 'Eat Fat' is really good, it gives clear scientific explanations for why a high carb diet is detrimental to diabetics and the reasons for switching to LCHF. I love the easy to follow diagrams which really help me plan the food we eat. 

In some ways it's a pretty radical diet change. Lots of fat but... bread,pasta, rice and cereals are out. Veg is weighed and measured and the general rule is that you eat 'above the ground' veg. Fruit is eaten only in small weighed portions. At the moment we're having 60g of carb a day with the aim of reducing that to 30gs.

So I really think that it's concern about health that would motivate such a drastic change in diet.
Do you lose weight ..YES and a good side effect is that your body starts burning your fat for energy as you're eating less carbs which are more easily converted to glucose and when not used stored as FAT. 
I've definitely noticed a positive change in body shape as the fat has begun to go
Am I hungry..NO

I have to admit I miss juices and I'm thinking of experimenting with a breakfast juice then eating the same LCHF lunch and evening meal as my husband. but it would have to fit in with my carb intake...so could be difficult.


Still haven't tried the Gabriel method yet, but it's where I'd like to go eventually...NOT DIETING!!
