Day 2.....surprisingly easy!

Week one: day 2

I'm finding juicing for two days surprisingly easy, despite the miserable weather. I can only put this down to the 14 days on nothing but juices in comparison two days is a breeze!

this juice was delicious

So far I'm maintaining the 9lb weight loss...but I want to lose at least another 14lbs. I know I could do another 14 days of juicing and get somewhere near my target but I love food...!

So here's the plan...

  • 2 days of low calorie juices
  •  3 days of juice for breakfast and 2 meals taken from Jason Vale's 'Super fast Food
  • 2 days still eating whole food meals, but allowing for sweet treats taken from 'Jason Vale or 'Deliciously Ella'
This makes it possible to enjoy meals out or with friends and family at weekend. Weighing in just once a week. I'm hoping that I'll continue to lose weight on this plan. According to the 'experts' eating like this should allow me to continue weight loss as I'm no longer eating HI (Human Intervention)foods.

Honestly, it seems too good to be true and I can already feel the panic rising at the thought of gaining what I fought so hard to lose...anyone out there who's yo yo'd for years like me will know exactly what I mean.

And breathe...I'll give it a go, what have I got to lose...well lots actually, at least I'll be healthy!!

Jason Vale's 5:2 diet

The way forward...

Week one, Day one of the 5:2 diet. Today I had 4 juices and lots and lots of hot herbal teas, because it was so cold with a biting wind. Mainly lemon and ginger which is my favourite as it's so warm and comforting.

I usually choose Twinings as the flavours good, but recently I've discovered Pukka teas.

I love, love, love, their nighttime herbal tea, made from a blend of oat flower, lavender and limeflower,
it promises help with sleeping, as I don't have a problem sleeping  I can't vouch for that, but the taste is delicious!

Found it surprisingly easy today, no hunger and enjoyed having a day with just juices. Two days a week seems a breeze following on from 14 days of juicing.

Surprisingly, knowing my love of potatoes with lots of butter and piled high with cheese or gorgeous fish with crispy batter and chips laden with salt and vinegar, plus chocolate bars with gooey centers, my cravings seem to be changing.

I'm more and more concerned about making the food that I eat not only tasty, but free from additives refined sugars and gluten. I think it's the result of feeling so good on the juices.

So, I'm looking at the different view points about what constitutes 'good for you' out there. I've just bought 'Deliciously Ella' from Amazon amazon.co.uk  and the next leg of my journey is trying out vegan/vegetarian mainly for health reasons.
Although, I'm also interested in Hemsley and Hemsley who do eat meat...mmm interesting.

The only problem I have with these young women is when I look at their photos (which show how amazingly healthy they look ) is that not one of them look like they've ever had a fat thought or a weight problem in their lives!!!!

5:2 diet aka Jason Vale

Jason Vale's 5:2 diet book

purchased from Amazon   amazon.co.uk

Loved this book, because I love Jason's no nonsense style of writing. Often making me laugh out loud...definitely not expected in a book about juicing!

He puts forward a very logical argument for the eating/drinking of fresh vegetable and fruit juices and the health benefits. There are a selection of juices to drink on the first two days for a period of 4 weeks giving loads of variety.  Calories have been worked out so you can adhere to the 500/600 calories a day of the 5:2 diet. Recipes are great, however disappointingly they are taken from Jason's 'Super fast Food' cookery book, so if like me you have both books the recipes are duplicated. Despie this the book is well worth buying.

Day 21...what next?

WOW I did it !!!!

Completed the last 21 days of Jason Vale's Big January Clean Up, all the food / juices this week were  from Jason Vale's Super fast food book...and they were yummy, really don't feel I can have lost weight this week as I feel so full and due to a knee injury I've been fairly inactive, but hoping to maintain.

What next?

Well, from tomorrow I'm going to begin on the Jason Vale 5:2 diet.   Basically this uses the principle of a low calorie intake for 2 days and then eating normally for 5 days. In Jason's version day one and two are made up of low calorie nutritious juices then five days of healthy meals from his 'Super fast Food' cook book. (See my review) http://healthwisemyjourney.blogspot.co.uk/p/bo.html

I'm also going to look at getting serious about exercise...lots of choices but how do I make it part of my routine and relatively inexpensive...will think about that!

I'm sure I read somewhere that thinking burnt up twice as many calories as exercise or is that just a diet myth?

Completed 14 days of Jason Vale's big January clean up!!

9lbs lighter and feeling great, despite falling while walking the dogs and twisting my knee. So today I can finally chew food, Day one of his clean food menu had probably the worst juice so far (what a disappointment!)
But the soup, though strange ingredients, e.g fennel and no onions or stock, was delicious. Hoping to keep the weight off this week if I lose any that'll be a bonus,

Then next week I'm going to begin Jason Vale's 5:2 Juice diet as I still need to lose more weight.

Today I had spirulina superblend and it was delicious lovely and sweet helped by the medjool dates... yummy!

Big January clean up Day 5

So far so good, juices are delicious so far the antioxidant King is my favourite !!

I'm really enjoying the challenge, I think one of the reasons is that I can go on Jason Vale's Facebook page and read other people's experiences, it certainly motivates me.  Also I can compare my experiences.

I think one of the main reasons I really love Jason Vale is because he's British, so it's easy to identify with him and his ingredients can be got hold of in the UK.  Any Brit who's tried to follow some of the other health/juice/raw food gurus (generally American) will understand what a refreshing change it is! plus I'm not having to try and figure out what, scallions, nightshades, cilitrano or collared greens are!!  Plus I love his sense of humour!

No idea how much weight I've lost yet, but will weigh in on Monday,  Really hoping to have lost more than the usual 2lbs I generally lose on alternative weight loss programmes

Jason Vale's big January clean up 2017, Day 2

What I like about Jason Vale's Big January Clean Up, is that it really, really is FREE!

OK so you might be tempted to download the app or buy one of his books, but you really don't NEED to. Video instructions for all the recipes arrive the day before in your inbox, so it's easy to check that you have all the ingredients. Prior to this there was a shopping list which gave a heads up. There's also a motivational video. Which does what it says on the tin...motivates you!
Day 2 began with a really bad headache, but this subsided by teatime. Juices are really enjoyable and I haven't felt hungry at all.
My most difficult time is cooking an evening meal for my husband, I make really good chips!! Yet I resisted pinching even one. Just kept thinking of Jason's mantra, I can have chips if I want to, I just don't want to...honest!
So far so good, looking forward to more delicious juices tomorrow! Until then watching Super Juice Me! Documentary

The big January clean up!! January 9th 2017

Ok, so somewhere mid summer I lost control of sensible eating, too many social occasions, with my husband in reasonable health off morphine and able to rejoin the human race again! Not least was a flying visit from my eldest son in the States, then enjoying time with my youngest son before he left the UK for Australia. and then before you know it CHRISTMAS!!!

I haven't got on the scales once since, well since the last time I blogged.

Jason Vale

But and it's a big BUT... I know now what works for my body. Juicing!

So I'm planning to join in with Jason Vale's Big January Clean Up! Dusting off the scales and buying veg and fruit like it's going out of fashion.
So cheers Jason, here's to ginger shots and the Protein rich Powerhouse, your very good health!

Nearly there...

Three years on...                                       and the end is in sight... Finally,  within 2lbs of my target ...
